JOSEPH  A.  MARCHESE

 

   Joseph A. Marchese, 76, of Palatka, passed away Sunday, July 4, 2010 at his home following the debilitation of Alzheimer’s disease.  Joe was born September 1, 1933 in New Orleans, LA, the “bebe” of the family.  He was preceded in death by his parents, 6 siblings and his wife Conchetta “Etta”.

    He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Arlene, daughters, Michelle (Ed) Dyal, Palatka, Camille (Mike) Dotson, Lebanon, TN, grandson Michael, step-children Roberta (John) Lacefield, Waycross, GA, Marie (Steve) Stinson, Cleveland, TN, John (Joan) Van Sickle, Cocoa, FL, William (April) VanSickle, Gainesville, FL, Bonnie Jackson and John Lielasus, III, San Diego, CA, 10 step-grandchildren, Jaclyn Snellgrove, Grass Lake, MI,  Drew Snellgrove, Ypsilanti, MI, David VanSickle and Hilarion VanSickle, both of Cocoa, FL and Russell Van Sickle, Gainesville, FL,  Ariana Lielasus, John Lielasus, IV, San Diego, CA, Julie Ann Culwell, McCalla, AL, Sandra Dyal, (Sr Chief Petty Officer,U.S. Navy), Norfolk, VA, Brian Dyal (Andrea), SanDiego, CA and several nieces and nephews.

    Joe served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War and 4 years in the National Guard.  He retired from Florida Power and Light after 34 years of service.  After retiring, Joe went back to school and became a certified nursing assistant and worked at Putnam Community Medical Center.  He later worked as a security guard at St. Johns River Community College for 2 years.  After the passing of his first wife “Etta”, Joe was a volunteer worker with Hospice of the Lakes.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Palatka and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW).  Joe and Arlene traveled and visited the 48 contiguous states.

     Services celebrating Joe’s life will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, July 10, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church of Palatka with Pastors Bob Scott and John Miles officiating.  Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery with the U.S. Marine Corp conducting military honors.  Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 P.M. at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka.
