GLENN E. REGISTER Glenn E. Register, age 67, born on July 26, 1942, departed this life on March 3, 2010 due to a brief illness. Glenn was born in the old Glendale Hospital in Palatka. He grew up on the family dairy and beef cattle farm, Register’s Dairy in Bostwick, where he learned responsibility and hard work , which by his words, “work is my hobby.” He remembered when it took all four of the kids to empty a one hundred pound bag of feed. After learning to ride a horse, they would ride the rough woods range to locate the cattle and treat the new born calves for the then known, screw Worms, which would infect and kill them. After graduating from Palatka Senior High in 1960, he joined the Florida National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1968. In 1966, he went to work with Johns-Manville in Green Cove Springs, which became JM Manufacturing in 1983. In the year 2000, the Green Cove plant closed down, so Glenn and his wife, Linda moved to Adel, Georgia, where JM opened a new plant, which became the largest PVC pipe producing facility in the world. Glenn was the Quality Assurance Manager and retired in July 2007. While in Adel, he served three years on the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and he was President of the Adel Kiwanis Club, a very high morals club. He and his wife joined the Springhead Baptist Church, where he became the music director and a Sunday school teacher. After retiring, he and Linda moved back to Bostwick. Glenn’s greatest call was serving God. He loved God first and his wife and sons and granddaughter. He served God faithfully and was ordained as Deacon of Bostwick Baptist Church in 1971, where he was a Sunday school teacher and had served as music director for 37 years. Glenn was also the lead singer with The Journeymen Gospel Quartet for eighteen years. He believed in being a witness for Christ and was able to lead many to salvation. He believed in walking the walk not just talking the talk. He loved the simple things of life. He was preceded in death by his parents, I.B. “Scott” and Doris Register. Glenn is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda Register, three sons, Scott Register, David Register and Mark Register all of Bostwick, two sisters, Patricia Gwinn and husband, Marty and Velma Lacy all of Orange Park, a brother, Howard Register of Bostwick, a granddaughter, Caitlin Register of Cambridge, Ohio and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Bostwick Baptist Church with Brother David Eddins, Brother Charlie Hunt and Brother Robert Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow at Bostwick Cemetery. Friends may call Friday, from 6 – 8 PM at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka. Flowers are gratefully accepted or memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Bostwick Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 64, Bostwick, Florida, 32007.
