JUANITA L. RABURN

            Juanita L. “Nita” Raburn, age 78, of Palatka, passed away, Friday, February 26, 2010 at her home.  She was a native of Dalton, West Virginia and resided in Palatka for the past 12 years moving here from Sanford, FL.  A graduate of Queens College in Charlotte, NC, Nita had owned and operated several businesses over the years including a Western Auto Store in Southern Pines, NC, Wee World Baby Store in Charleston, SC and most recently an interior design business in Palatka.  She was a very active member of Peniel Baptist Church, where she was involved with cooking the Wednesday evening meals.  Nita was also a member of the Palatka Women’s Club, the Silver Belles, the Red Hat Society, Senior Friends, Beta Sigma Phi, a volunteer at Putnam Community Medical Center as well as a volunteer with Haven Hospice, where she had designed one of the rooms within the Roberts Care Center.  Nita had also owned and enjoyed horses. 

            She was preceded in death by her first husband, O’Neal S. Latzak, her second husband, Albert W. Raburn, a daughter, Linda Carol Latzak Taylor, a grandson, Christopher Steven Taylor and a great-granddaughter, Caroline Elizabeth Roberts.

            She is survived by a son, Alan Latzak of Sanford, a daughter, Lois Priest and husband, Tom of Elon, NC, 3 step-children, Susie Raburn, Ronnie Raburn and Barry Raburn all of Palatka, 3 grandchildren, Laura Roberts and husband, Dan, Emily Preston and husband, Mike and John Priest, 3 great-grandchildren, Jessy Roberts, Nathan Roberts and Maleah Preston. 

            Memorial services celebrating Nita’s life will be at 6:15 PM, Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Peniel Baptist Church with Brother Benny Reynolds officiating.  No calling hours are scheduled.
