WAYNE T. FOX Wayne Tillman Fox, age 74 of Hollister, passed away, Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center following an extended illness. A native of Jacksonville, he had attended schools there prior to entering the U.S. Army in 1954. After taking his basic training at Ft. Jackson, SC, he then reported to Ft. Campbell, where he took his AIT and Airborne training. After completing airborne training, his unit was in route to Alaska to participate in Operation Snowbird, when the engine on their C-119 had problems and they had to make an emergency jump, this being the unit’s first jump since completing airborne school. In 1955, he deployed to Munich, Germany with his unit, where they became the 11th Airborne Div. / 503rd Inf. He served two years there obtaining the rank of Sgt. E-5 before returning to the states and receiving an honorable discharge. Wayne then settled in the Palatka / Hollister area, where he went to work at Hudson / Georgia Pacific. He retired as a machine tender in the Kraft paper division after 42 years of service. His hobbies included fishing and hunting and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who were the love of his life. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Driggers Fox, his parents, Arthur Clement (Jeppie) and Minnie Lula Fox, his brothers, Curtis Arthur (C.A.) and David Earl Fox. He is survived by his 4 sons, Terry Fox of Pensacola, Augie Fox and wife, Mary, Rusty Fox and wife, Gaye all of Hollister and SSgt. Keven Fox, U.S. Air Force (Ret.) of San Antonio, TX, his brother, SFC, James R. Fox, U.S. Army (Ret.) and wife, Linda of Hastings, 6 grandchildren, William, Jake, Tegan and Tommy Fox, Sarah Bryk and husband, Patrick and Scott Castle and wife, Niki, 2 great-grandchildren, Beatrice and Joseph Castle, a cousin, Barbara Pearce and husband, Donnie of Orange Park along with many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be 11:30 AM, Monday, March 1, 2010 at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, Florida, 32218 with Brother Benny Reynolds officiating. The U.S. Army will also conduct military honors. No visitation is scheduled. The family invites all friends and relatives, beginning at 3:00 PM, to come to the Fox family home at 104 Travis Lane in Hollister to join them in a time of food and fellowship. In lieu of flowers, the family requests the comfort of your presence at his celebration services. |
