VIRGINIA LOUISE HUGHES Virginia Louise Hughes, age 90, of Palatka, died Wednesday January 13, 2010 at Putnam Community Medical Center after an extended illness. She was a native of Tampa and had lived in Palatka since 1956, coming from Oviedo. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Palatka and was a U.S. Navy hospital corpsman during World War II. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles E. & Blanche Hill, 2 brothers, Charles Hill and George Hill and an uncle, Matthew Lundy. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, James “Ed” Hughes of Palatka; sons, James Edward Hughes, Jr. and John Richard Hughes, both of Palatka and William Charles Hughes and wife, Angie of Eustis; daughter, Karen Ann Hughes of Palatka; sister, Winifred Goldstein of Tampa; sister-in-law, Dorothy Hill of Corpus Christie, Texas; grandchildren, William Edward Hughes and Andrew Mikell Hughes, both of Eustis, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday January 16th at the Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka with Rev. Charles T. Rabun, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Palatka Memorial Gardens. Friends may call Friday from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. at the Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka. |
