RUTH BROER FLANDERS Ruth Broer Flanders, age 81 of East Palatka, passed away, Sunday, January 10, 2010 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center following an extended illness. She was a life-long resident of East Palatka, a 1947 graduate of Putnam High School. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneer’s of American, the Ladies of Nobles of the Putnam County Shrine Club and the Patter Chatter Hatters of The Red Hat Society. Ruth was also a member of St. James United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Larry Michael Flanders. She is survived by and was the beloved wife for 57 years of Simmie G. Flanders, 2 sons, Gary G. Flanders of Palatka, George Louis Flanders and wife, Denise of San Mateo, a sister, Pauline B. Faircloth of Valdosta, Georgia, 4 grandchildren, Samuel G. Flanders of San Mateo, William L. Flanders of San Mateo, Lindsay J. Branch and husband, Matthew of Florahome, Betsey F. Rife and husband, Travis of Palatka, 5 great-grandchildren, Haylee Branch, Matalin Branch, Matthew Branch, Nicholas Branch, Jayden Flanders and a sister-in-law, Jewel Broer. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka with Reverend Hardy B. Sandlin, III officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in her memory to Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center, 6400 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, Florida 32177. |
