JOHN “JACK” MALTBY John Howard “Jack” Maltby, 88, of East Palatka passed away, Sunday, January 10, 2010 at Governors Creek Health and Rehab Center in Green Cove Springs following a brief illness. He was a native of St. Augustine and had been a life long resident of Putnam and St. Johns Counties. He was attending Auburn University when WWII began, at which time Jack immediately enlisted in the US Army/Air Corp where he served in Saipan in the South Pacific campaign. Jack was the owner/operator of Maltby Manufacturing in Hastings for over 40 years. He attended the First Baptist Church in Palatka. In his spare time, Jack enjoyed traveling and spending time with family as well as baking. He was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Amos. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nell Bryan Maltby, 2 daughters, Johnell “Joni” Maltby Summerford, and Judy Maltby Porter all of East Palatka, 4 grandchildren, Brett Summerford of Fairfax, VA, Bryan Summerford of Athens, GA, Reid Maltby Porter and his wife, Laura, of Austin, TX, and John Porter, of Fort Worth, TX, 1 great granddaughter, Audrey Summerford, of Helsinki, Finland and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Services will be at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at Johnson Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka with Pastor Don Burnett officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Palatka. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers are gratefully accepted or memorial donations may be made to Rodeheaver Boys Ranch, 380 Boys Ranch Road, Palatka, FL 32177. |
