RANNY THOMAS Ranny Thomas, 63, of East Palatka, passed away Friday, December 18, 2009 at his home following a short illness. Born in Marianna, Florida, Ranny had been a lifelong resident of the Hastings and East Palatka areas. He was a 1964 graduate of Hastings High School and attended St. Johns River Community College. Ranny served 4 years in the U.S.Coast Guard and had also worked as a farmer. He was employed by the ARC of Putnam County for 6 years until retiring in January 2009 and began working part time with the ARC. He was a member of the Turkey Island Hunting Club and the NRA. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hastings and also attended the First Presbyterian Church of Palatka. Ranny enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching football. He was preceded in death by his parents, Owen and Florine Thomas. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Connie Revels Thomas of East Palatka, sons, Justin Travis Thomas of Hastings and Walter C. Messer, III of Sedalia, MO, a daughter, Terri Lyn DeGrande and husband Greg, of St. Augustine, two sisters, Wanda Kight and husband, Jimmy of Hastings, and Gloria Motes of St. Augustine, 3 grandchildren, Madelyn DeGrande of St. Augustine, Megan Thomas and Ethan Thomas, both of Hastings, as well as many nieces and nephews. Services will be Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at 10:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church of Palatka with Rev. Robert A. Scott, Rev. Doug Knight and Rev. John Miles officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Palatka. Visitation will be Monday from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Johnson Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka. Memorial donations may be made to Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center, 6400 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, FL 32177. In celebration of his life, a memorial video will be shown. |
