ROBERTA FUTCH SIMMONS Roberta Futch Simmons, 93, of Palatka, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center. She was a native of LaBelle, Florida, and had been a resident of Putnam County since 1924. Mrs. Simmons had taught at the old Peniel Elementary School and also worked at Sears Roebuck in Palatka. After retiring from Sears, she worked in the cafeteria at Kelley Smith Elementary, retiring in 1986. She was an honorary member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. Mrs. Simmons had been a life long member of Peniel Baptist Church and had also attended Francis Baptist Church. In her spare time she loved to read, travel, cook and quilt. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clifford A. Futch, her second husband, Cecil Simmons, a grandson, Henry Chastain, and a son-in-law, John A. Chastain. She is survived by her children, Annette Chastain of Palatka, Nancy Durrant and husband, Jack, of Satsuma, Clifford Futch and wife, Pauline, of East Palatka, Tim Futch and wife, Jackie, of Palatka, Rebecca Galt and husband, William, of South Daytona, and Robert “Bobby” Simmons and wife, Esther, of Palatka, 16 grandchildren, 25 great grand children, and 10 great great grandchildren. Services will be at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Johnson Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka with Brother Bill Wing officiating. Burial will follow in Peniel Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers are gratefully accepted, or memorial donations may be made to Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center, 6400 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, Florida 32177. |

Roberta was such a wonderful lady and of course all of us Houck's loved her. She was always so nice to us girls from the minute we moved in the neighborhood.
