ARDELL E. BURNEY, JR. Ardell E. Burney, Jr., age 77, of Palatka, died Wednesday September 9, 2009 at Palatka Health Care Center. He was a native of Palatka and a life-long resident of Putnam County. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Palatka and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He retired after 32 years as a fork lift operator in tissue converting at Georgia Pacific. He was a former member of V.F.W. Post #3349 in Palatka and enjoyed hunting. He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret Conway & Ardell E. Burney and a sister, Annie Wilson. He is survived by 2 sons, Ardell E. Burney, III and wife, Angie, of Palatka and Mitchell Burney of Butler, Georgia; daughter, Margaret Burney of Atlanta, Georgia; 5 grandchildren, Melissa Burney, Mitchell Burney, Justis Burney, Byron Burney, and Ashley Burney; 4 great-grandchildren, Cayley Burney, Matthew Swiger, Jonathan Swiger, and Sophia Burney and the mother of his children, Lillian “Sissy” Brown of Palatka. Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. Saturday September 12th at the Bostwick Baptist Church with Rev. John Ingram officiating. Burial will follow in Bostwick Cemetery. The U.S. Army will conduct military honors. No public calling hours are planned.
