JOSEPH KAMMERER Joseph Kammerer, age 63, of Palatka, died Monday September 7, 2009 at his home after an extended illness. He was a native of Patterson, New Jersey and had lived in Palatka for the past 15 years, coming from Tampa, where he lived for 20 years. He had worked as a machinist at Tampa Shipyard for several years and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and participated in “tough man competitions” and demolition derbies. He also enjoyed spending time with many disabled veterans at the V.A. Hospitals. He is survived by his wife Dorothy Kammerer of Palatka; children, Dorothy Loretta Kaiafas and husband, Solomas, of New Jersey, Elizabeth Laura Kammerer of Interlachen and his estranged daughter, June Kammerer of Pennsylvania; step-children, Scott Spellmeyer, Chris Spellmeyer, and Coleen Spellmeyer, all of Tampa; brothers, Edward Kammerer & wife, Laura of Pennsylvania, George Kammerer of Connecticut; sisters, Joyce Harrell & husband, Vance of Maryland, Carol Pace & husband, John, Loretta Pace & husband, Peter, Penny Rosenfield & husband, Jerry, all of New Jersey, Mary Lewin & husband, Bill, and Melody Kammerer and husband, Pete Katynski, all of Palatka; 6 grandchildren, Tiffany Mae Jackson, Brittany Marie Campbell, Gabriella Kaiafas, Stephen Kaiafas, Alexandra Kaiafas, and Shane Spellmeyer, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. No services are planned at this time. Memorial donations can be made to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee, 38105.

I met Joe when we moved next door to him in Lincoln Park, New Jersey when I was 11 years old, I am now 55. Joe was one of the "Good Guys", he was always kind to me and my family throughout the years.
