STELLA C. WELLS Stella Cauley Wells, 78, of Pomona Park, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Shands at UF in Gainesville following a brief illness. She was a native of Hastings and resided in Pomona Park since 1978, moving there from Flagler County. Many years ago she worked as a cafeteria manager with the Flagler County School System. She later worked for 32 years as an insurance agent with the Liberty National Life Insurance Company in the Flagler County area. During her time with Liberty National she was the recipient of numerous awards including; The Honor Agent award, Torch Club award as well as the District Leader award. Ms. Stella was a member of the Citrus Growers Association and had over 40 acres of citrus trees. Much of the fruit from her trees was used to supply Flagler and Putnam County school systems with fruit. She had served as chairman of the Putnam County Cemetery Taskforce. As a member of this taskforce, she and other members of the committee were instrumental in locating and mapping the over 100 small cemeteries scattered throughout the Putnam County area. Ms. Stella will no doubt be remembered for her work as a “Citizens Advocate”, many times speaking at county commission meetings concerning various issues. She was likewise a member of the Putnam County Genealogical Society. She is survived by her son Benjie, and wife Susan Cauley of Bunnell, a sister, Gianetta Lookebill of Indianapolis, Indiana, a grandson, Jay Cauley and wife Amy of Bunnell, 2 grandchildren, Nolan Cauley and Abigail Cauley of Bunnell and a very dear friend, Margaret Lovell. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at Flagler Palms Memorial Gardens in Palm Coast. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to: Rodheaver Boys Ranch, 380 Boys Ranch Road, Palatka, FL 32177.

this evening. I am really stunned, Stella was an icon in
Putnam County politics and she just seemed to be timeless.
She had a big heart, she tried her best to help anyone with a
problem. During my career, we spent countless hours together, it's
hard to imagine

So sorry to hear of Stella's passing. She was certainly a good friend to many people in Putnam County and always a defender of those being mistreated by the the government. She took up many people's cause and tried to help them. I will always appreciate all she did for my father, Leslie Wells, for the 11 years they were married, her love and devotion to him, and the wonderful care she took of him right up to his death in 1989. Benjie and family, earth has no sorrow heaven can't hold. Hold
on to GOd's unchanging hands and realize he's to wise to make a
mistake and he is just to know the difference. God only comes back

It was an honor to be acquainted with Stella through Jack (her nephew) and Cathy Wetherington. She was a very smart lady, quite a character and she knew her "stuff" very well.
