MARY ELIZABETH BAGGETT 

Mary Elizabeth Baggett, age 82, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2009 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center following an extended illness.  She was born in Kettering, England on August 24, 1926 to Robert B. and Alice K. Hulatt.  Mary married an U.S. Soldier in 1943 and after WWII ended she moved to the United States in 1946 and resided initially in Florida.  In 1952, Mary relocated to Albany, Georgia where she worked in the accounting field for a thread manufacturing company.  In 1956, she was Phoebe Putney Hospital first female human resources director and worked there for 32 years.  She was a volunteer in the Georgia Civil Air Patrol Search and Rescue team during the 1950’s and became a First Lieutenant serving as a licensed navigator on many flights searching for missing aircraft during 12 years of service.  In 1999, Mary moved to Alabama where her granddaughter, Kathy lived and in 2001, she moved to Florida to live closer to her daughter and son-in-law.  She had great friends and good memories living at the River Villa Retirement Community in Satsuma, Florida.  She was a very caring and loving person who enjoyed cooking, playing bingo, board games and cards with all her many friends. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, L. C. Baggett of Albany, Georgia. 

Mary is survived by a daughter, Kay B. Davis and husband, Chevy of Palatka, a grandson, Chip Davis and wife, Cindy of Savannah, Georgia and their children, Rachael and Ross Davis, granddaughter, Kathy Morris and husband, Ray of Birmingham, Alabama, 5 nieces and their families who live in Scotland and England.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 25, 2009 at the Hope Lutheran Church in Satsuma with Reverend Jake Brey officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in her name to Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center, 6400 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, Florida 32177 or to Hope Lutheran Church, 273 County Road 309, Satsuma, Florida 32189.

TO MARY'S FAMILY,,,,,AS CEO OF PHOEBE PUTNEY HOSPITAL I AM WRITING ON BEHALF OF THE HUNDREDS OF FOLKS WHO HAD THE GOOD FORTUNE TO KNOW AND BE LOVED BY MARY BAGGETT.  WE ALL GET TO MEET MANY PEOPLE IN OUR LIVES BUT ONLY A FEW REALLY STICK IN OUR MEMORY BANK.   MARY WAS ONE OF THOSE UNIQUE PEOPLE WHO LEFT AN UNENDING IMPRESSION.  I CHERISHED THE MANY STORIES MARY WHO SHARE FROM THE ''OLD DAYS'' AT PHOEBE AS WELL AS THOSE OF HER YOUNGER DAYS IN WAR-TIME ENGLAND.  I HOPE YOUR GRIEF IS RELIEVED IN PART BY THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE IMPACT MARY HAD ON SO MANY FOLKS AT PHOEBE PUTNEY.....I CAN STILL VIVIDLY SEE THE GRIN AND INTERNAL ENERGY SHE SHOWERED UPON ALL AROUND HER.   ALL MY BEST...JOEL WERNICK...CEO...PHOEBE PUTNEY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL
