JAMES W. CROSBY James W. “Jim” Crosby, age 83, of East Palatka, died Wednesday July 15, 2009 at his home after a short illness. The Center Hill, Florida native had lived in Putnam County for the past 6 years, coming from Marion County, where he lived from 1951 – 2003. He was of the Baptist faith and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He retired after 43 ½ years as a telephone lineman with North Florida Telephone Company. He was a founding member and past president of the Florida High School Rodeo Association and was a founding member of the Junior Rodeo Association. He had been a special deputy with the Marion County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse and had also worked as a farmer and cattleman. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting and he loved his family very much. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Zanna Crosby of East Palatka; 2 sons, Robert B. “Bobby” Crosby & wife, Melisa of East Palatka and Richard “Jody” Crosby & wife, Barbara of Nacogdoches, Texas; 2 daughters, Elizabeth “Beth” Adams & husband, Barry of Lawtey, Florida and Julia “Judy” O’ Quinn & husband, Mike of Dublin, Texas; sister, Jewell Crosby Linkous of Tazewell, Virginia; 6 grandchildren, Julia Crosby Orellana, Tresha Crosby Wright, Robert B. “Bob” Crosby, Jr., Ginger Crosby Morgante, Montie Crosby and Joel Crosby; 6 great-grandchildren, Marques Baker, Kristin Considine, Talor Morgante, C. J. Morgante, Tatum Wright and Joshua Orellana. Graveside services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday July 30th at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Ocala with Bishop Frank Crabtree and Bishop George DeLoach officiating. The U.S. Army will conduct military honors. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka.
