MAMIE DRIGGERS  BLACK DENNIS 

      Mamie Driggers Black Dennis, age 69, of Palatka, died Sunday April 26, 2009 at Putnam Community Medical Center following a short illness.  She was a native of St. Augustine and had lived in Palatka since 1959, coming from Riverdale, Florida.  She was a member of St. Johns Avenue Baptist Church (formerly Lemon Heights) and also an active member of Governor’s Island Baptist Church in Bryson City, North Carolina.  She had retired after 25 years as a cafeteria assistant manager, working at several schools in   the Putnam County School District. 

     She was preceded in death by her husbands, Talmadge E. “Buddy” Driggers and Robert Paul Black, sisters, Mabel Bryan and Lois Rewis, brother, Raymond Schmidt, step-daughter, Joyce Hart, and a step-granddaughter, Christina White.

     She is survived by her husband, J.R. Dennis of Palatka; daughters, Tina Prance & husband, Mike and Teresa Hicks & husband, Bobby, all of Palatka; sons, Jason Driggers & wife, Libby of East Palatka, Talmadge Driggers & wife, Wendy and Terry Driggers & wife, Tammie, all of Palatka; sisters, Becky Potter of Florahome and Ethel Morgan of St. Augustine; brothers, Charles F. Schmidt of Satsuma and Presley A. Schmidt of Florahome; step-daughters, Jeanette Ates of Milton, Fl., Janette Bennett, Myrtie Cooley & husband, Jimbo, Dorothy McGowan & husband, Joey, and Lisa Tennant, all of Palatka, Paula Hinkle & husband, Jim of East Palatka, Connie Ritchart & husband, Dale of Port Charlotte, Fl., and Debbi Rossi of Deland, Fl.; step-sons, David Black & wife, Pam of Melrose, Fl., David Dennis & wife, Betty and Steve Dennis & wife, Lynn, all of Hollister and Eddie Dennis & wife, Michelle of Crestview, Fl.; 29 grandchildren including, Donnie Griggs & wife, Tammy of Twin City, Ga., Justin Driggers of Mooresville, North Carolina, Jason Driggers, Jeanie Driggers, Arielle Driggers, Taylor Driggers, and Jesse Paul McGowan, all of Palatka and 27 great-grandchildren.

     Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Thursday April 30th at the St. Johns Avenue Baptist Church in Palatka with Bro. Don Burnett, Bro. Barry Beauchamp and Bro. John Orr officiating with burial to follow in Palatka Memorial Gardens.  In celebration of her life a memorial video will be shown.  Calling hours will be held Wednesday from

6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka.  Flowers are gratefully accepted or memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
