SUSAN GAREY Susan Garey, age 93 of Palatka, died Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Kiva Assisted Living. She was born in Toughcanock Falls, NY and graduated from Canton High School in Canton, PA. Susan lived in for 20 years in Sayre, PA but spent most of her life in Florida having lived in Hollywood and the last years resided in Palatka. She was a homemaker most of her life and was a member of the Lehigh Valley Lady Trainman Association. She loved picking up shells on the beach and decorating them as well as playing bingo, poker and doing ceramics. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was married for 41 years to the late Albert L. Garey. Survivors include a son, Arthur Garey and wife, Priscilla, a daughter, Evelyn M. Custer and husband, Larry, a sister-in-law, Edna Carl, 6 grandchildren, Ranae Smith, Alan Garey, Duane Ridderman, Mark Garey, Shelly Ridderman, Kevin Garey, 6 great-grandchildren, Doran Williams, Adam Garey, Cole Smith, Jack Garey, Chase Garey, Amanda Garey along with several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be 3:00 PM, Friday, March 20, 2009 at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka with Reverend Eddie Parcher officiating.

I have fond memories of visiting Aunt Susie & Uncle Al when they lived in Sayre. My parents, John (Jack)& Esther, occasionally brought us kids to visit "Mike" & "Big Sis". I remember their dog who loved ice cream. If I remember correctly, the dogs name was "Spike". After my father's passing, we lost all contact with his family. Ms. Sue was my mother's (Irene Ridgdill) suite mate at Kiva for two years. They shared their bathroom and many hours of companionship. Ms. Sue was a dear lady and we both thought highly of her. She will be missed greatly. Irene Ridgdill ~ Palatka, Florida
