Nadine Lea Gibson, age 75 of Palatka, passed away, Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at Putnam Community Medical Center following an extended illness. A native of McComb, Mississippi, she had resided in Palatka for the past 55 years, coming from McComb. She retired from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office as a dispatcher and also retired from J.C. Penney’s as a sales associate. Nadine enjoyed fishing, gardening and being with her grandson. She loved our country and the Lord very much. She was a member of Peniel Baptist Church and the Senior Citizens at Peniel. She also enjoyed the monthly lunch meetings with other J.C. Penney retirees.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, V.C. Gibson, her parents, Jesse and Bessie Dunaway, and 2 sisters, Irene Johnston and Natalie McAdams.

Nadine is survived by her daughter, Diana Gibson of Palatka, 2 sisters, Helen Brewer of Baton Rouge, Doris Kirkland and husband, Reuben of Zachary, Louisiana, a brother, Jessie Lloyd Dunaway and wife, Jean of Vidalia, Louisiana, grandson, Jacob Merritt of Palatka, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many loving friends.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 28, 2009 at Peniel Baptist Church with Brother Bill Wing officiating. Burial will follow at Palatka Memorial Gardens where funeral honors will be presented by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office. The family will receive friends at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home on Friday, February 27^th from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
