MICHAEL  J.  IRELAND

      Michael James Ireland, 59, of San Mateo, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2009 at his home following an extended illness.  A native of Lincoln, Maine, he resided in Putnam County for the past 7 years coming from Jacksonville.  Mr. Ireland served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Vietnam War.  He had worked as a truck driver and as a fork lift operator at the main office of the U.S. Postal service in Jacksonville.  Mr. Ireland had attended Hillcrest Baptist Church in Palatka.  As his hobbies, he enjoyed motorcycle riding and was a NASCAR fan and especially of Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Jr.   

He is survived by his wife of 6 years, Joy Ireland of San Mateo, a daughter, Tori Smith of Lincoln, ME, a son, Michael Blish, a step-daughter, Stephanie Boone and husband, Chris of San Mateo, a step-son, Michael James Kersey and wife Catherine of Jacksonville, 2 brothers, David Ireland and wife Linda of Chester, ME and Bill Ireland of Bangor, ME, 3 sisters, Sherry Kimball and husband David of Woodville, ME, Brenda Fitzhugh and husband Ed and Nancy Archer and husband Dale, all of Chester, ME, 9 grandchildren and 2 grandmothers, Leona Markeson and Althea Mason, both of Lincoln, ME.

Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, February 16, 2009 at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka with Bro. Willie McKinnon officiating and the U.S. Marine Corp. conducting military honors.
